Head Start
Program Summary
The Head Start program provides developmentally appropriate educational activities for children ages 3–5 and an opportunity for families to become more involved in their child’s education.
Head Start is supported by grants from the Office of Head Start. There is no monetary cost to eligible families.
Qualifications
Your family may qualify for Head Start if:
- The local program staff in your area tell you if you qualify
- Your family’s income is at or below the federal poverty level.
- Programs may enroll some children from families whose incomes are higher than the federal poverty level if they meet other requirements.
Other circumstances that may qualify your child for services:
- You are experiencing homelessness
- You have children in foster care
- You are receiving TANF, Supplemental Security Income or SNAP
- A child with a current Individual Education Plan (IEP)
Private Pay — On a highly limited basis, there are opportunities for over-qualified families to pay out-of-pocket. This is not limited by qualifiers. Please reach out for more information.
