SEK-CAP WILL ACCEPT APPLICATIONS FOR HOMELESS
PROGRAM STARTING JUNE 30TH
Girard, KS –The Southeast Kansas Community Action Program (SEK-CAP), will begin accepting applications for the Tenant Based Rental Assistance (TBRA) program on June 30th, 2014.
To potentially qualify for assistance, applicants must be certified as “homeless” by a social service agency. Additionally, applicants’ income must also fall below the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s Section 8 rental assistance program guidelines, which is $27,400 for a family of four living in Crawford County; the income guidelines vary by county and family size.
SEK-CAP will begin accepting applications for the TBRA Program on June 30, 2014 and will continue to accept them until further notice. The TBRA Program, overseen by the Kansas Housing Resources Corporation, assists qualifying individuals and families with rental subsidies and/or security and utility deposits. The SEK-CAP TBRA Program is used specifically to address the housing needs of those who are homeless or about to become homeless through no fault of their own throughout twelve counties in Southeast Kansas.

SEK-CAP SEEKING GOVERNING BOARD NOMINEES
Girard – Southeast Kansas Community Action Program (SEK-CAP), a 501(c) 3 not for profit organization, is seeking names for nomination and election to the SEK-CAP Governing Board of Directors as a representative of low-income citizens. As a Community Action Agency, SEK-CAP conforms to federal legislation requiring a tri-partite board of directors, with equal representation from the low-income community, elected public officials, and the private sector.
SEK-CAP has one vacancy on their nine-member board, and seeks qualified low-income individuals or designated individuals representing a low-income group or constituency. It is essential that the persons submitted for consideration will represent the views and interest of low-income citizens of Southeast Kansas. Furthermore, they must:
The board position is non-salaried. The full board meets at minimum six times annually, on the third Thursday of alternating months, beginning in January, from 2:00 pm – 4:30 pm; attendance at these meetings is mandatory. Board members may be reimbursed for travel and other reasonable expenses incurred while attending meetings and transacting the business of SEK-CAP.
SEK-CAP's Community Action Partnership programs are funded through a variety of sources including state and federal contracts, grants and local support. Ninety-four percent of total revenues are applied to direct program services.

GIRARD – The Southeast Kansas Community Action Program (SEK-CAP), one of the recipients of 2012 Tenant Based Rental Assistance (TBRA) grants, announced that they will no longer accept applications for the TBRA program, effective at 4:30 p.m. this Friday, October 4, 2013. SEK-CAP has received enough eligible applications to meet the funding capacity for this grant year. No applications will be accepted after 4:30pm on Friday, October 4th. SEK-CAP will issue another press release to notify the public when the application process and waiting list is reopened.
Grants are awarded through the Kansas Housing Resources Corporation. The TBRA Program assists qualifying individuals and families with rental subsidies and/or security and utility deposits.
